Thomas W. Oates, DMD, PhD

Dr. Thomas W. Oates received his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania (1983) and a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University (1994). A diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, Dr. Oates is currently interim associate dean for research and assistant dean for clinical research at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School, and professor and vice chair of the Department of Periodontics. He also directs the Southwest Region of the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
