Dr. Eakle earned his dental degree at Meharry Medical College in 1972. He has taught at the University of California, San Francisco for the past 31 years, has conducted research with dental materials and is a Fellow in the Academy of Dental Materials. He is co-author of the textbook Dental Materials: Clinical Applications for Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists. Currently, he is Professor of Clinical Dentistry - Emeritus at UCSF.
